The Burkeville Covered Bridge

Another attraction in the Conway area is the Burkeville Covered Bridge, a historic landmark that spans the Deerfield River. This bridge, with its wooden beams and shingled roof, offers a respite from the elements and is a testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the people who built it many years ago. Visitors can walk across the bridge and take in the beauty of the river below, as well as enjoy a peaceful moment of reflection in the midst of the natural surroundings.

The Field Memorial Library

For those interested in the written word and architecture, the Field Memorial Library is a must-visit destination. This historic library holds a rich collection of books, magazines, and other materials and is a gathering place for the community of Conway. Visitors can spend hours browsing the shelves, lost in the world of books, or participate in readings, workshops, and other events hosted by the library.

A Conway landmark

Jonathan A. Boschen has crafted a documentary that immortalizes the legacy of the Field Memorial Library in Conway Massachusetts – a generous gift from Marshall Field to his hometown. Marshall was born in 1834 and raised in this tiny hamlet before setting off for Pittsfield at only 17 years old, where he began selling dry goods, later becoming one of Chicago’s most successful merchants.

In 1856, Field embarked on his adventure to Chicago, and with hard work and dedication, he built one of the most renowned department stores in America. By the start of the twentieth century, Field had accumulated an incredible fortune equivalent to $66 billion today. In 1900, out of gratitude and love for his hometown of Conway, he generously donated money to construct The Field Memorial Library and dedicated it as a memorial to his parents, John and Fidelia Nash Field.

Through an engaging documentary, Boschen immerses viewers into the world of Marshall Field and sheds light on why the Field Memorial Library is a vital piece of American heritage.
